Remote camping is only permitted outside of the Laguna Recreation
Area (see Recreation Area Trail map for boundaries). A permit is required (free of charge) and can be obtained from a U.S. Forest Service Office
or the Visitor Information Center (619-473-8547) at Mt. Laguna, or can be mailed by calling (619) 445-6235. Check permit for applicable
regulations. If you need a permit on a Friday, be sure to call the Visitor Center to make sure it is open.
Local favorites for remote camping are:
Kitchen Creek Road, beginning 1/4 mile S of Sunrise Highway
Check out: Timber's Edge,
Yellow Rose, Sheephead Road, Long Canyon, Fred Canyon, Troy Flat
La Posta Road (aka Thing Valley Road), beginning 1/2 mile S of Sunrise Highway, on
E side of Road only. South of junction with Morris Ranch Road, camping on both sides of road.
Pine Creek Road, about 1 mile W of Sunrise Highway. No camping in Borrow Pit or
Filaree Meadow. An Adventure Pass is required on Pine Creek Road, in addition to the remote camping permit.
Wood
or charcoal fires are not permitted.
Portable liquid
and solid fuel stoves OK.
Camp at least 100 feet from lakes,
streams, springs and meadows.
